basicsFandom; Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Timeline; Meakashi-hen arc Abilities before entering the city; None. history Houjou Satoshi, along with his younger sister Satoko, both lived with their parents, and were often subjected to abuse from the people living in Hinamizawa because of their parents’ views on the Dam project. Unfortunately, their parents died in an accident, so he and Satoko were placed under the care of their aunt and uncle. In all of the arcs, their aunt and uncle are portrayed as mean and abusive, which, in Meakashi-hen, caused Satoko’s mental state to become severely weakened. Because of his sister’s declination of sanity, Satoshi took it upon himself to care for her every need, causing Satoko to become ‘spoiled’ and very reliant on her brother.
Shion, who was taking Mion's place in daily life things at the time, cared deeply about Satoshi, and couldn’t stand to see him mentally exhausted from his sister’s constant neediness. She believed that if Satoko just died, then Satoshi would be freed from the obvious pain he was in. She went into an uncontrollable rage at school and physically assaulted Satoko, all the while yelling at her that it was her fault that Satoshi was in horrible shape, that she was killing him with her spoiled ways. The green haired girl only became angrier when all Satoko did was cry and whimper for “Nii-nii”, the name that she called her brother. Shion, not being able to take it anymore, grabbed a chair and held it over her head, preparing to slam it down on Satoko and get rid of the thing that was paining her love so much. However, Rika and Rena, two of Satoko’s friends, stood in her way, not letting her harm the small blond. Soon after, Satoshi appeared on the scene, and he shoved Shion roughly out of the way so that he could get to his bawling sister. He questioned her: What had Satoko done? What had they done? Why were they constantly being picked on by the community, and was the Sonozaki family the same as them? Of course, Shion hadn’t meant to hurt Satoshi in the process of hurting Satoko, but she saw that that was what she had ultimately done.
Later, at the place where Shion was currently residing at in Hinamizawa, she got a phone call from her twin sister, Mion, who told her that Satoshi had called her because he wanted to speak to her, when he really wanted to speak to Shion. Mion thought that it would be appropriate if Shion took the phone call, so she had told Satoshi that she would call her back. She then gave her sister his phone number, and Shion immediately called him after she got it. Satoshi told her that he was sorry for how he acted—that he hadn’t been himself, and that he hoped that she wasn’t hurt. Shion promptly replied that she was the one who should be sorry, but Satoshi told her that she didn’t have to apologize. He said that he’d never forgive the people that had ‘cornered’ him and Satoko, and that even though the Sonozaki family was like that, it didn’t mean that she was like that too. After more talk about apologizing, Shion asked Satoshi how he was doing. He told her that he had quit his job, and with the next paycheck that he got, he would have achieved his ‘goal’. He also said that he wasn’t the one in pain at the moment—that his sister was. Naïvely, Shion asked if Satoko would be fine, and Satoshi replied angrily “Does she look fine to you?” Shion once again started to apologize, but Satoshi ignored it and started to talk about how since his sister was on the verge of insanity, he wanted to give her at least one last night of happiness. He then spoke of the Watanagashi festival and how he wanted her to take his sister there. Shion asked him if he’d be attending, and hesitatingly he told her that he wouldn’t be able to go because he had things to do for his job. The Sonozaki twin told him that she understood. | history cont.“Mion… you don’t believe in it, right?” He then asked her in a whisper. She asked him what he meant, and he told her that he was talking about Oyashiro-sama’s curse. Shion laughed and asked him why he was talking about that all of the sudden. Satoshi then asked if it was true that Oyashiro-sama cursed those who tried to leave Hinamizawa. Once again, Shion asked him what he was talking about, and if he had planned on running away anytime soon. He replied that he used to, but that he didn’t want to anymore—also that he thought Oyashiro-sama hadn’t quite forgiven him about it yet. The phone call quickly ended when he said that his aunt was coming, and he ended the conversation by telling Shion that he was putting Satoko in her care. On the day of the Watanagashi festival, Satoshi went to a secluded area in a place filled with trees; a bat in his hand and a slightly crazed look in his eyes. He arrived at an old dresser and set the bat down nearby it. Later, his aunt, having been told by Satoshi about the dresser, went out to retrieve it. When she was inspecting it, a person attacked her from behind and beat her savagely until she died. The police suspected Satoshi of being the murderer, though Shion didn’t believe it. However, when he was confronted with his aunt’s death, he seemed to become deeply troubled, which suggests that he had been the one to kill her. Shion told a lie about Satoshi being with her at the time of his aunt’s murder so that he wouldn’t get thrown in jail. When leaving the police station (after being questioned about Satoshi and his alibi), she was picked up by a couple of men that drove her to the Sonozaki estate, where she had to face repenting for her sins by ripping off three of her fingernails—the Distinction process. If she didn’t, the Sonozaki family wouldn’t even consider letting Satoshi live, which was a threat they used to make her go through with her repentance. It seemingly was all for naught, because she found out later that Satoshi had gone missing. In her mind, that equaled his death. personality / extraSatoshi is a kind soul, only wanting the best for everyone. If someone’s in trouble, he’ll do his best to help them, even if it gets him hurt in the process. Always giving and never taking describes him the best, because he feels that as long as he can make others happy, then he’s happy. Overall, he’s probably the nicest boy anyone will ever meet, and he wouldn’t hurt someone unless they were harming someone close to him can you say L5?. You could seriously call him an angel.
